The first snowfall is here and December is upon us… do you know what that means?!?! Work Christmas Parties!!! Ok, Ok, I know some of you are thinking – UGH, why would I want to hang out with my grumpy old co-workers all night long and pretend like we actually like each other?! While others are thinking, heck yes! A nice evening out without the children and the boss is picking up the bill!
I keep asking Chase if anyone at his work is getting excited about their party and he continuously replies with “I think you’re the only one that’s brought it up Andrea.” Well even if you’re not as excited as I am about our evening out, I’m here to share some of my tips for what to wear for your night on the town.
What To Wear
It’s all Black + Gold for me this year baby! I love wearing black – It’s sophisticated and slimming and this is the BEST time of year to rock it! My office party is a bit dressier so I will be wearing my black leather leggings with a wrap vest and a pop of gold with these oh-so-fab gold foiled heels (that I tried to have custom ordered online but ended up being able to find them on my trusted online shop – The Bay).
I’m sure you all have a little black dress in that closet of yours… So why not dust that bad boy off and pair it with a blazer and a punch of red.
If you’re thinking about buying a new dress for the party – black is great but emerald (option here, here and here) and red/burgundy (option here, here, here, here and here) are huge this season. If the thought of a form fitted dress that may hug all the wrong areas, keep an eye out for a ruched dress or one that has the material gathered to the side of the stomach area.
I also love a dress with sleeves because I always imagine that my underarm is waving hello lol. Most often though, the dresses that I love don’t have sleeves so I pair them with a good structure vest to cover up! These are all little tips and tricks to keep in mind when you’re shopping and remember… Spanxs and a good push up bra are your best friends and an excellent investment – they’ll never let you down!
Here are my TIPS to looking and feeling my best for any event.
The Glow: I always get my hubby to give me a spray tan two nights prior to the event and a follow up spray the evening before. I love the streak-free deep glow that I get from St. Tropez and it’s a product that I am able to spray myself when he isn’t around. If I’m in a pinch and forget this step, St. Tropez has a one night only self bronzing lotion (local spas in Kelowna carry this line) that I apply right out of the shower that will give me a glow for the evening.
A Bright Smile: I love nothing more than seeing someone with a bright white smile. I think it exudes confidence and is VERY attractive! A week prior to an event, I use my custom fit bleaching trays from Lifestyle Dentistry to bleach my teeth for 30 minutes. I can’t believe how nice and white my teeth get from just 30 minutes! Crest White Strips work as well but they require use over a longer period of time. Pair that with a red lip and BAM – a bright smile.
Smooth Lines: I never leave the house in a dress without my Spanxs! There’s nothing worse than seeing someones thong straps digging into their hips or their underwear line under their butt cheeks – Spanxs replaces all of that and smooths everything out all while sucking in those unwanted extra inches. Also, you will never catch me with bare legs in the Winter; I always stock up on Secret no-waistband nylons from Shoppers Drug Mart.
Bright Highlights: On the day of the party I wash my hair with my ISO Cool Tone Cleanse Shampoo from First Choice Haircutters and leave it in while I shave, etc. This brightens up my blonde highlights and it gives me a vibrant look. I also spritz my hair with It’s a 10 Shine Spray before leaving the house.
The Mood: I always crank my tunes and have a glass of vino while getting ready. This has been a tradition as far back as I can remember and it always helps me to unwind and get in the festive mood! Rdio has excellent music and you can create your own playlists – it’s one of our favorite apps at The Spence residence!
Accessorize: If I am wearing a high neckline, I will wear larger earrings – usually gold. If my neckline is lower, I usually wear a larger statement necklace with small studs or drop earrings.
I hope my tips and tricks help you dress your best for your next party and feel free to message me if you are feeling lost or overwhelmed when dressing. I would love to see what you choose and how you style it! Tag me #thesocialgal and Cheers Dolls!
